Dear MAGA: On Antifa

MAGA friends and family:

Trump's false claim is that Antifa (anti-fascism) is a violent, leftist ideology. It is not; in fact, up until 2016 or maybe even 2020, we were all firmly anti-fascist. I grew up watching Saving Private Ryan, The Postman, Band of Brothers, The Pianist, Schindler's List, Pearl Harbor, Inglorious Basterds. The list is endless. Some of these, I watched with you. We knew who the bad guys were without saying anything. We were all implicitly antifascist, whether you said you were or not. Somehow during Trump's first term in office y'all forgot that implicit understanding that fascism is bad. Russia somehow became palatable to the American conservative when y'all used to be unflinchingly hawkish toward them.

The only difference between us is I still think fascism is bad, because it is. That's it. All that said, I have a genuine question: Are you willing to turn your back on our shared history and the hundreds of thousands of anti-fascist American patriots that fought and died against the German and Japanese during WW2? Because that doesn't sound like the person I know.

Quite honestly, we never changed. You did.
